Local printing TS2003

Hi,

I have a terminal server that is also a domain Controller in our small

2-server domain. I know it's not best practice, but there we are, it adds

resilience.

I had Dell set the servers up, however when users log on to the TS their

local printers do not show up at all on the printers group on the TS. When I

log on as administrator, my local printers show up and work. When I log on as

a user, they don't. Can someone tell me where the setting is that allows TS

users to use (install?) their local printers?

Thanks

Have you checked the EventLog on the server for any warnings or

errors regarding printing?

Let me guess: are you using Dell printers?

Dell printers are known to be incompatible with TS, leading to

irratic behaviour and possibly crashing your spooler and in the

worst case even your server.

They are rebranded Lexmark printers, for some models you can get

away with using a Lexmark driver, but that's hard to say without

knowing which printer model you have and which drivers where

installed by Dell employees.

Could you repost with the EventID, Source and description from the

EventLog? Look at Events at the time a normal user connects to the

TS.

RE: Local printing TS2003

Hello,

I am a bit confused about this issue, will you please help collect some

information to better understand it?

Information Needed:

==================

1. Log on to a client machine with a user account. Can you see the local

printers? Open the Remote Desktop Connection application, take a look at

the Local Resources tab, make sure the Printers has been selected. Then log

on to the Terminal Server using the RDC, do the local printers show up?

2. Re-log on to the same client machine with the domain administrator

account (I assume you meant the domain administrator), log on to the

Terminal Server from this client machine. Do the local printers show up?

3. Check whether the same printer driver has been installed on the server

and the client machine.

4. As Vera mentioned, please let me know if any warning or error exist in

the Event Log. If possible, replace this Dell printer with another brand

printer and see how it goes.

Please let me know the results. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Sincerely,

George Yin

Thanks for the replies.

I feel such a fool. The tick box was empty on the local resources-printers

tab when I just looked. I don't know how that happened as it should have

worked on both or neither logon. I spent ages yesterday running through GP

properties etc to try to find the setting. The end result is, it works now

and it may have been as simple as the tick box being unchecked.

Thanks for your advice.
