Hi nil.

Take a look at How do I password protect my files and folders in Windows?

You'll notice in the "Microsoft Windows XP professional users" section that encryption is a function of XP Pro not XP Home. Your profile says you have XP Home.

You can make the folder "Private" as outlined in the "Microsoft Windows XP home users" section or you can "Compress" the folder and "Password Protect" the compressed folder as outlined in the "Other security solutions for protecting your files and folders in Windows" section, subsection "Windows ME and Windows XP users".

Third party programs are also available.

Should you ever forget your password or in the case of third party programs you should for some reason not be able to access them we would not be able to help as password circumvention help is against our rules.

There are other possible issues with encryption or third party programs and such so keeping a copy of the folders on a disk, usb stick or external drive is advised.
