If I do a "vssadmin list writers" nothing ever comes back to the command

on the service.

Other than the service, not that I'm aware of. Do you have the VSS

roll-up installed? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349/en-us

Yes

I think I know the answer but cannot find out how to.

How does one set SQL 2005 writer as the default on the system ?

SQL is not my forte and I wish I could point you to the newsgroup that

would best answer this but I can't find one for SQL. Perhaps a new

It is strange I have the SQL writer enable and started

but when doing a vssadmin list writers - produces nothing.

Do you have any ideas on how to troubleshot the writers at this point?

Yes, in that circumstance you are right. Sadly, I've gone as far as I
