I think?

If I power the pc up from the socket it can take up to an hour before I can actually turn the unit on, after which it works with no problem, is this simply a case of having to replace the power unit or could there be another problem with connections?

Hello and welcome.

I am a little confused.

Power up from socket?

Are you sure that it is not on?

Are there any lights on the front indicating power on the hard drive?

Hi, Rather than adding to the confusion, a few questions.

Do you mean that the mains power is normally turned off when the computer is not in use?

From that do you mean that plugging into the mains power socket from then, nothing will happen or work at all until some time has passed?

If yes to both, then you may be correct and the power supply may be faulty and require replacement. If you can replace it, that would at least prove it one way or another. See if you can borrow one known to be OK before spending money.

Nev.

It may necessarily not be the PSU, it could be the MOBO.

Its hard to diagnose, but if you look into the PC when the PSU (power supply) when it is on at the wall and the PSU switch on the back of the PSU is on, there should be some lights on the MOBO (Motherboard)
