Printing Error

Hi,

I am having trouble printing large documents using Windows 2003 Server has

my print servers.

I have multiple HP Printers that I am having trouble with printing. They are

any model really, 4200s and 4350s. The problem is that after awhile I get

this error stating:

PCL XL Error

Subsystem: USERSTREAM

Error: MissingData

Operator: 0xc9

Position: 91851

So I was on the impression it was printer drivers I tried every single one.

So then I said to myself must be that the OS is Windows 2003 x64 and it

doesnt like the 64bit OS. So I switched it to Windows 2003 32bit same

problem occured. Then I decided let me bring back up a old trusty Windows

2000 server. With the windows 2000 server I had no trouble.

By the looks of the error and what I read from HP it seems like the server

is not sending the data fast enough. This is just a guess.

I am wondering if anyone could tell me why it works on Windows 2000 and not

Windows 2003.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am so fed up of trying to troubleshoot this.

Couple of questions first:

1. Is Dot.NET Framework 3 on this machine?

2. Are the HP drivers current?

3. Is this from a specific app (Excel perhaps?) or any app?

1. .NET 3.0 is installed on the server

2. HP drivers are the current ones.

3. No application is installed on the server except server software. Backup

exec 11d

Re: Printing Error

Are the same versions of PCLXL installed on both machines?

\windows\system32\spool\drivers\platform\3\pclxl.dll

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but .NET 3.0 breaks printing on

*some* apps and apparently messes with the unidrv*.dll set of files.

MS refuses to acknowledge it's still broken and that .NET 3.0 broke

it. I am currently experiencing this problem with Excel 2003 (fixed it

on Word 2003) on the client side and have found 2 workarounds for it.

I have recreated the problem (.NET 3.0) myself and a user in the HP

forums confirms it as well.

There are a few KB hotfixes that you should install that might fix

your issues or at least reduce some of them. This KB article is

supposed to fix what .NET 3.0 broke but it hasn't fixed it in our

environment:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944203

This KB hotfix helped a *little*:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937193

One of two workarounds (for HP printers at least):

File > Print... > Properties > Advanced

Disable "Advanced Printing Features"

Disable "Print Optimizations"

We have had 100% success with this workaround but it is a pain for

users to do.

Another workaround is to get ahold of the slightly older unidrv.dll,

unidrvui.dll, and unidrv*.hlp files, backup the current ones, then

overwrite the current ones with the older versions. Other confirm this

works but it is a bit of a kludge. I'd rather Microsoft fix it than to

play unidrv.dll hokey pokey to fix it.

Please read this very long post on HPs forums regarding the whole

mess, especially the posts towards the bottom:

http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1111678&admit=109447627+1203694925380+28353475

Let me know if you have any luck with the KB hotfixes.
