Hi

My wife has just been handed a Macbook to replace her pc laptop at school (primary teacher) there is a copy of Parralells with it but no copy of windows as yet to use in Bootcamp.

This is the 1st time i have looked at a Mac and seems very strange buit quite cool at the same time. Just cant understand why the change in a school

What id like to ask is , is it possible to install windows xp direct from the old pc laptop to the new mac to run in bootcamp or paralells?? (Only dell restore disks no windows disk)

Cheers Kev

I will say a definite no to that idea Kev Windows operating systems are not transferable under licence conditions in any case, but practically I doubt it would work or that you could copy it over, not to mention the fact it wouldn't validate.

Some Macs will allow an installation of Windows, but that must be done from a new disk.

You will need to find out if it is one of the Macs that windows can be installed on from Mac themselves.

Thanks for reply Nev , thought that was probably the case , and have also discovered the old pc laptop has died anyhow, while my wife has been on maternity leave

Hopefully itll be a copy of Win 7 when she gets back as its a new macbook which definately accepts windows in bootcamp.

Just gotta sort out a wireless modem now

Installed windows XP with Boot Camp last night and seems to be working fine :) (Not nice goin back to XP but was all i was given to use:()

Was fairly easy but would recomend printing out the Bootcamp help sheets and read especially the highlighted parts:rolleyes:

Basically it consisted of the following:

1 Creat a partition in boot camp advisor

2 Loading in Windows and choosing file type (FAT or NTFS)

3 In windows load in Apple drivers off Apple OS Disk . ( gets all the gadgets/devices working in windows)

4 Then if Windows needed hold down the Option/ALT key down when booting up and screen gives option of MAC or Windows , select windows and off youu go :D

Still have parallels to install but not sure if really need it yet.

Good fun (i think ) playing around with a Mac but dont think id ever buy one myself due to price and love using Win7:cool: and you still need windows half the time to run programs!!
