First of all, I am not entirely sure what video card I have. I know it is either a Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT or 9600M GT. I know the M version is for laptops but both GPU-Z and Rivatuner states that it is 9600M GT while at boot, before the splash screen when it is showing the GPU Bios Version e.t.c it says 9600 GT. In GPU-Z it also says that the card only has 128MB of memory while at startup it says 512MB. I have compared my specs to the official specs of both desktop and laptop versions and it seems it is closer to the laptop version but it is not exact. In fact the specs are lower than the official.

The official drivers don't work, neither laptop or desktop drivers. What does work is dox's customized forceware which as you can tell from the name is customized and so unofficial.

Oh, while I'm at it, I overclocked it the other day and re-ran windows 7's index rating. Gaming graphics performance went up from 4.8 to 5.1 but aero performance stayed at 4.8? Shouldn't it increase?

Any ideas? Thanks

what's it say in device manager? until you know what the card is then you won't be able to get the right drivers.

if device manager is no use try downloading this and installing it, the see what it says your GPU is.

Hi Leekaiwei, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

I have now found you have posted this question on at least two other forums,

A few interesting questions about my graphics card - Cyber Tech Help Support Forums

A few interesting questions about my graphics card

Although up to now Match is the only person answering your question, we in general do not like to see someone posting the same question on multiple forums.

The reason being that it can lead to confusion for you, because of conflicting advice perhaps, but also means that a helper on one forum may give exactly the same advice that a different helper may have given on another forum, meaning that one helper has wasted time that could have been spent on someone else.

I hope you will understand this and either use this forum only or one of the other forums.

Please let us know which way you wish it to be, and let either us know you are going elsewhere, or let them know the same.

Nev.

The 2 differences in the cards you think you have is that one is an 'M' which just meas Mobile as in laptop (a mobile GPU will not fit into a standard PC unless modified to such a degree that its not worth the effort)

You will have the non mobile version of the chip - only get drivers from the 2 reference companies NVIDIA or ATI your GPU is from NVIDIA and you should be using this driver

for 32 bit NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.62 WHQL

Also do not try and overclock your GPU as the reference coolers are not adequate enough to handle the extra heat

Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)

Asus P5K premium black pearl

4GB OCZ Reaper 8500

260GTX
