Call Microsoft to re-activate when prompted, if it isn't letting you do so

over the Internet.

If you mean you're having trouble actually doing a repair install of XP,

you'll need to explain what's happening. You may not be entering your CD key

correctly. Or, you may have installed a service pack in the system and the

CD is older than that. You will need to create a slipstreamed CD on another

computer.....

See if http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm helps.

I'd guess that you're using an OEM system that came preloaded on your

previous computer. You are not going to be able to install that on any

other computer. OEM versions are valid only for the first system they

are installed on, even if that computer ceases to exist.

If it came preloaded on your old computer, it's very likely locked to

the BIOS on the old motherboard. You've seen the results of that.

Home Editiion does not support dual processors. Only Professional supports

dual processors.

Hi - he didn't say he had dual processors - he's got an Intel CoreDuo

processor :-)

Dual core is not dual cpu. Home will support all the logical processors on

a multicore cpu, but only one cpu (socket). It will still run on a dual cpu

board but it will only use one of the cpus.

Although what you say is correct, it doesn't matter in his case, and

that's not his problem. Although XP Home doesn't support two separate

processors, it *does* support a dual-core processor.

Moreover, he could even install XP Home on a computer with two

separate processors; he would just have the use of only one processor.

k.srinivas rao, please quote the error message you get verbatim.
