Guest simonbrentford@googlemail.com Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Hi there, I have just installed 2003 Server Standard on a hard disk. It sits on a partition which is a basic volume and occupies 100% of the disk space. Is it possible to split that down so I can create new partitions? Do I have to use a 3rd party util or can I use the OS itself. Cheers, Simon
Guest Dave Patrick Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Re: Repartitioning a disk You can just start a new installation. When the Windows Server 2003 Setup screen appears, all the existing partitions and the unpartitioned spaces are listed for each physical hard disk. Use the ARROW keys to select the partitions Press D to delete an existing partition, If you press D to delete an existing partition, you must then press L (or press ENTER, and then press L if it is the System partition) to confirm that you want to delete the partition. Repeat this step for each of the existing partitions When all the partitions are deleted press F3 to exit setup, (to avoid unexpected drive letter assignments with your new install) then restart the pc then when you get to this point in setup again select the unpartitioned space, and then press C to create a new partition and specify the size (if required). Windows will by default use all available space. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest Marcin Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Re: Repartitioning a disk Starting with Vista, you can accomplish this directly from Disk Management console. In your case, use a 3rd party utilty (PartitionMagic from Symantec and Acronis Disk Director tend to handle this pretty well)... hth Marcin
Guest simonbrentford@googlemail.com Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Re: Repartitioning a disk Thanks for your help folks. I had to rebuild in the end. I did not have the 3rd party s/w. Cheers again....
