XP Restore Hung - What Now

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a PC that was infested with malware. I have a system restore

going on, but appears to be hung. The bar across the screen hasn't moved in

45 minutes and the HD light on the PC stays on.

Is there any way to cancel this restore? If I unplug the system will it

revert to the "before restore started" state?

You may have to find out the hard way. I hope you have an image backup or

other backup to use in case the system fails. You can try Last Known Good

Configuration from the boot options menu on restart. Usually, when a system

restore fails the system needs to rollback before rebooting.

System Restore is not very effective against malware anyway.

There's no way to cancel the restore process at this point. The system needs

to be cleaned of virus infection an malware.

Read this Announcement and follow it's instructions.
