Driver Store - Vista and Server 2008

Recommended Posts

Hi:

Is the driver store for USB/Firewire printers / scanners / camcorders or

external storage devices etc. etc. the same with Vista as with Server 2008?

E.g. if a device installs and works with Vista SP1 right away, can it be

expected to install and work with Server 2008 - or does Server leave some

drivers out?

Thank you,

Saucy

Hello Saucy,

I think you have to check individual, because Vista or Server 2008 will provide

a basic driver store. But the vendor of the hardware you will implement is

more in charge to provide the correct driver. So, even a device works correct

in Vista does not mean it works also in Server 2008.

RE: Driver Store - Vista and Server 2008

Dear Saucy,

Thanks for posting here, and also many thanks Meinolf for your assistance.

Analysis:

==========

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 use a new mechanism called Servicing

to manage driver installation. However, it does not mean that Windows Vista

device drivers can be safely used on Windows Server 2008 systems.

It is always highly recommended that you install device drivers that are

specifically designed and tested for the corresponding operation system.

Installing incorrect device drivers could lead to unexpected behaviors.

Also, you may contact the hardware manufacturers to check whether new

device drivers are available for Windows Server 2008.

I hope this helps. Thanks.

Sincerely

Morgan Che
