I'm no idiot but I've been searching for a week now on wtf to do! There's a port on my External HD that the prods inside of it have been bent beyond repair. All I care about is getting to the files on my drive. I'm willing to fix **** myself if I know how but I don't. I'm willing to buy parts or buy a new external or take it into a shop. Whatever the **** it takes, but Idk where to take it to or where to buy a new port, caddy, or case for it, or anything. Somebody ****in' help me please. My zipcode is 75428 if anyone can give me a store or shop that can fix this sort of thing. Even if I have to mail into somewhere, that's ok. Just help me out please. Edited by Plastic Nev

Hi,

You ought not add your email addy on a public forum!!

You will be able to remove the drive from its case and plug it into a new caddy or adapter to copy off all of your data. Depending on the age of the unit the drive will be a IDE or SATA interface.

This adapter will do the job, it covers both drive types, comes with a power supply and a USB cable.

Hi Shorttyler, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

As you can see I deleted your E Mail address for your safety and privacy. Various spam bots can harvest that address and then overload you with spam. I hope you understand.

The advice given by Tootech is about the same I would have given, and unless there is a nearby computer spares shop selling similar equipment that you can go and pick up in person, that is the best option.

Nev.
