Long pause if I click a network resource that is not in service?

I have a home network with three computers and I frequently share resources

among the computers. Whenever I click anything that happens to be on a

computer that is (temporarily) turned off, I have to wait about 45 seconds

for a message that I don't have permission to access that resource before I

can proceed. Can I reconfigure anything to eliminate this annoyance?

By the way your post is worded and your mention of "Whenever I click anything that

happens to be on a computer that is (temporarily) turned off", the answer is no

unless you have any "Wake on LAN" settings enabled on the machine that is

"(temporarily) turned off". You can not connect to a machine that isn't connected to

the network or hasn't the ability to do so.

It is looking for it as instructed, don't tell it to go after something

you know is not available.
