Vauxbot Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Hi Guys Need some advise. I carried out a routine MS update install on Monday around 15:30. Since then the system refuses to load. It starts OK then you get the blank screen with the scrolling green bar and thats where it stays. I have run the automatic repair option but this only tells me that the computer can not repair itself. Unfortunately, when I got the PC there were no backup/restore disc. So my question is where do I go from here. Can I simply purchase a new Operating System ie Wiindows7 and install?? Any help/advise greatly appreciated Quote
KenB Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Hi, Can you boot up in Safe Mode? Constantly tap f8 after you switch on. If you can you can try a System Restore to a prior date. Start > type in .....System Restore Put a check against "choose a different restore point" Pick one prior to Monday. Vauxbot Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 Hi KenB Thanks for the reply, I've tried everything - Restore the system tells me there are no previous resotore points. Cant start in safe mode. Quote
RandyL Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Vauxbot how did you try the System Restore since you can't boot normally or in safemode? Is this computer a name brand and if so what is it? Make-model-number. Did you use a key command at startup? It is strange that if you got into System Restore that there are no points to restore to as Vista by default sets a point every 24 hours and it's not easy to change that in Vista. If you mean you got into boot or startup repair options and nothing works it's not a good sign. Was there a restore to factory conditions option? Seriously I would consider trying to save files at this point. After that try to obtain restore disks from the manufacturer. It could be the update, hard drive, malware or more but to me it sounds like windows is corrupted or the drive is failing. Sure you can buy a new OS but it won't be cheap. Vauxbot Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 Thanks RandL The PC is a Acer T671. This is what I do Start Up I then get 2 options: 1. Launch startup repair (recommended) 2. Start Windows Normally I select option1 after a while I get the told Startup Repair cannot repair the computer automatically. i then choose view advanced options for System recovery and support. From here I get the option to restore which I've tried and the option to do a full system restore but Ive not got the disks. I was looking and buying a new tower for around £300 but if I buy a new OP and this will sort me out then this option would be cheaper. Any ideas. Quote
RandyL Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 You might try the Acer eRecovery. And for the record I think you have the Acer Aspire T671. Quote We are all members helping other members.
