i know that ie6 is not really popular anymore right now, but i got this bug report and they asked me about this problem. look at the picture:

did you see the characters not properly aligned? i tried various things to find the source of the problem. well, im not really an expert on web design and css and all, so i cant really point out what is the problem. it's very strange, because most of the texts*were just usual links using the anchor tags.

i used div and spans for the layout, and its running on jboss portal. this is a portlet application, and the portlet itself i think is implemented with tables. (i know, its not really a good thing to mix div spans with tables, but*i didnt found out about it until well later in the development process).

the peculiar thing, is that there is absolutely no separation on the text itself. what can cause this kind of thing? the only thing that i can see is the problem occurs*on most cases where*the multibyte and singlebytes interchanged. btw, im using utf-8 for the page encoding.

i tried everything, copy pasted the portlet source itself into a local html, including linking the css sources and javascript and run it locally. but the problem doesnt appears there. i tried to save it locally and pop it up again on ie6, but again the problem just disappears. of course, doing it like that wont duplicate the real environment, and maybe the portlet settings itself has something to do with this behaviour.

im pretty confused right now, is there anyone who can give me any hints?

thanks in advance
