Problems renaming or deleting file in a share

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have network shares that are being locked. It is just from this one

server. It's a windows 2000 sp4 with patches up to January 08.

I get "File Lock or Access Denied Error" even though I am local/network

Administrator.

It have Symantec backup exec, and McAfee 8i patch 16.

I am at my wits end on this, it is just this server that is having the

problem.

Any Ideas?

Thank you,

Koz

I would have a look on Google. It gave me several hundred hits

for "File Lock or Access Denied Error".

Pegasus,

I actually went that route, the results did not help. It's strange, the

files are being lock from the server even though the administrator has right.

It states another program is using them, even though there is not. I

checked the McAfee logs, the server is clean of viruses. It's the only

server having problems. The files were migrated to another server as a test

with windows 2003 sp2 and some are still locked. That is why I am posting

this.

Would Backup exec Symantec hold them?

thank you for the reply,

koz

If the files are locked then oh.exe (Windows Resource Kit) will

probably tell you what's locking them.

Re: Problems renaming or deleting file in a share

I informed my Manager of OH.exe, but he redid the server and everything seems

to working find. BUT,

Yesterday another server is doing the same thing, it's a windows 2003 sp2

server, Virus scan 8i with patch 16. I've check all the logs and nothing

even check the scan, nothing.

I patched it in January: below is the list of updates: ( I looked for any

problems and nothing showed). Frankly I am very upset:( I am now check the

old server for anthing unusual. Using Process checker, running nod32 on it,

it is a 2000 machine, I am very stress.

any ideas?

thanks koz
