Hi all,

my windows system is installed in C:\ and in C:\ there are also other data

files (say db data files, documents, pictures and so on).

Non I'm doing an ASR backup every time I made some changes to the system

(say an istallation of a patch, a new driver, a new devices, a new program,

etc.)

unfortunally the ASR backup wizard do select also the data files, this make

the ASR backup very time consuming because the data files.

Note that I do already buck up all data files periodically in incremental

mode so the ASR do buckup them twice.

how can I exclude the data files prom the ASR?

TIA, Luca Minudel

Not to answer your question directly, but only to point out for the

benefit of some others who may read this thread, that this is why some

people partition their drives. D:\ holds data files, for instance. I

also have E:\ for Executables (that are stable), F:\ for overflow

from E:, F:\ and G:\ for Fun and Games, G:\ for Graphics, text and

video processing, and H:\ for Heap (everything else, not critical).

Not to disagree with this comment , but in IT semplicity is the first

principle and tools should support it - users are not to blame , developers

.... sometimes are (and you know I'm a developer and yes I'm a sinner)

Yes, I couldn't agree with you more -- if all could be simply run from

C:\ life would be easier. But: have you noticed the size of a .bkf

file when you back up a C:\ drive that has everything on it? Not

pretty. Try to defrag these sort of monolithic backup files

sometime. Some partitioning of the system activity, programs and

files is called for, unfortunately, imho.

But to your original question, I created and restored an ASR

yesterday, and don't remember seeing anything that allowed me to

select the files to be included.
