wiggywoos Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Hi, Wonder if anyone can help me (yet again) I was fiddling around on my netbook a few days back and somehow (don't ask how) but it appears I have knocked the wireless settings off, my netbook now does not pick up any avaliable networks whether it be secured or unsecured, it doesn't even find my own wireless point which is only across the room to me. Stupidly I then tried to tick/untick boxes here and there to see if I could rectify my problem... but no, what ever I've done it appears I've done it good lol Does anyone know which boxes need to be ticked/untick to allow me to pick up my wireless again please :) Quote
Tootech Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Run System Restore to a day prior to when you changed the settings. All your original settings will come back. Quote
wiggywoos Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 thanks I will try that and see how it goes Quote
wiggywoos Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Hi I have tried a couple fo different restore dates over the last week or so however each time I try it, it states computer (netbook) is unable to restore and the only other one then avaliable is after the date I 'broke' it Quote
PseFrank Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Hi Wiggy...Probably unlikely, but do you have a switch on your netbook to turn the wireless on/off. Have you accidently turned wireless off.. Edited January 4, 2010 by PseFrank Quote I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :) Need help with your computer problems? wiggywoos Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 hi, that is probably a good question to ask me really ha ha but no I haven't turned it off I know for a fact I went into wireless network settings and unticked/ticked a couple of different boxes in there. It states now when I try to set up a manual network connection (instead of using a flash drive, which I didn't use when I initially got wireless) the message pops up saying Depending on the wireless software running in this computer, the wireless network setup wizard might not work, for details, see article 871122 in the microsoft knowledge base on microsoft.com. When I click ok, it won't let me go any further other than to use a usb which I don't have. I can't remember what I have done exactly and need this to make my uni life easier as it's a lot easier carrying a netbook than a desktop lol Quote
wiggywoos Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 does anyone else have any other possible solutions? Quote
Tootech Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 What is the make/model and operating system? I'll look up the manual for it and see what possible controls you have for wireless. Quote
wiggywoos Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 I have a Acer531 aspire one using windows home edition trying to connect with a white netgear wireless g-router WGR614 Thanks Quote
wiggywoos Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 is that enough info or do you need more?? Quote
Shellack Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Re; no wireless anymore The microsoft knowledge base article it refers you to suggests the following: This behavior occurs for several reasons. Some computer and hardware manufacturers provide their own configuration software that replaces the Wireless Zero Configuration service that is provided in Windows. In that case, you must use the software that is provided by the manufacturer to configure your wireless network. If you want to use the Wireless Network Setup Wizard or the View Available Wireless Networks feature to configure your wireless device, see the documentation that came with your computer or with your wireless network card. Use this documentation to determine whether you can use the Wireless Zero Configuration service to configure your wireless network. Sometimes, you cannot use the Windows functionality. If your computer or your wireless network adapter did not come with its own wireless network software, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, and then click OK. 2. Click Network Connections. 3. In Network Connections, click to select your wireless connection, and then click Change settings of this connection. 4. On the Wireless Networks tab, click to select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box. To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK. 2. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration. 3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply. 4. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK. Quote
wiggywoos Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 WOW! that's a lot to try and understand lol I'm sure that my netbook came with it's own wireless installed and I've somehow managed to not allow it to now pick up avaliable wireless networks which sounds like what you have typed... I will give it a go soon (uni work calls) and let you know how I get on. Many Thanks for your response to this Quote
Tootech Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Sorry it took a while, I've 2 Uni essays to do..... The manual is about as much use as a chocolate teapot! There is a small switch on the front edge - do you have switched to "On"? Also, you can switch the Bluetooth on/off by using Fn + F3 - often Bluetooth and wireless and controlled at the same time - try that too. Quote
wiggywoos Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 tootech.. I know how you feel ha ha I hae 3 uni essays and 5 lab reports eek! I hae tried that button and all it does it brings up the powersaving details, also the button on the front is switched to on, but it's something else I have done within the network connections bit.. still haven't had time to try the last sugestion but Iwill do once this work is out of the way Good Luck!! KenB Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 If you are still having problems: In the TaskBar bottom right, there should be an icon that looks like 2 monitors. Right click on this and there should be an option to "repair". Try this. If you are still unable to connect... Start > Run ......type in....devmgmt.msc .......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
