Guest John Whites Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I downloaded the KMS for server 2003 to activate vista clients and setup/activated. I think I remember reading somewhere that this one can not activate server 2008 clients. Is there going to be a new download of the KMS server for windows 2003 to activate both vista and server 2008 clients? I have my KMS key for server 2008, will i just activate it the same way I did the other one? If there is a new versions will it require me to reactivate the vista key I already used?
Guest Darrell Gorter[MSFT] Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 RE: Windows Server 2003 KMS for Server 2008? Hello John, Yes there will be an update for the KMS for Windows Server 2003 download that will enable you to activate Windows Server 2008 machines as well as Windows Vista machines. It should be released shortly. Sorry don't have an exact date. Guest Jiri Pavlica Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 RE: Windows Server 2003 KMS for Server 2008? The error message is displayed when I run the command "slmgr.vbs -ato" from the Windows Server 2008 machine. (KMS host is set - "slmgr.vbs -skms kmsserver" and is accessible.) ----------------- Activating Windows Server®, ServerStandard edition (ad2542d4-9154-4c6d-8a44-30 f11ee96989) ... KMS 1.0 was running here and activating KMS clients without problems. When I tried to activate Windows Server 2008 Standard (installation source from Volume Licensing, so no product key was requested), the error was 0xC004F042, so I successfully installed update to version 1.1. But the next attempt to activate Windows Server 2008 was with the same error. Vista activations are successful, only attempts to activate Windows Server 2008 ("slmgr.vbs -ato" after setting the KMS host by -skms parameter) are unsuccessful. Installations are OK. Guest Jiri Pavlica Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 RE: Windows Server 2003 KMS for Server 2008? Hello Darrell, now I understand. "slmgr -dli" displays just VOLUME_KMS description. I checked the KMS host key on the Microsoft Volume Licensing web site and the description is "Windows Vista - KMS". Our company has the agreement with Software Assurance, so I will be waiting for a new KMS host key for Windows Server 2008. Thank you very much.
