Guest windcrestred Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 We are thinking of adding a domain controller to our single server network. The existing server is a Dell running Windows 2003 Standard edition which act as a domain controller File and print server and runs Terminal Services in application mode. There are 25 user Cals and 25 terminal server Cals on the existing box. We would use Server 2003 Standard R2 for the domain controller and will probably order another Dell. What do we require for CALs for the new DC? It will only be running as the DC all the other roles will stay on the existing box. I can't remember where to look this up and my headache is getting the better of me trying to find out on Technet. Any help is greatly appreciated even a point to a link with the info would be great. thanks in advance MVP or Server Guru WR
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Re: New Domain Controller question Hello windcrestred, If this server is only used for Domain controller and nothing else, you only need licenses for the server software itself, from my point of view. For the users/devices you have already all licenses. But best answers you get from your software reseller or MS support. BTW, it is not the best solution to run Terminal services on a domain controller, better have a member server for this.
