mattjacknine Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Yesterday I was connected up to Virgin cable broadband and successfully connected my PC to the wireless router they supplied. But when I went to add my wife's laptop to the new network I found that I couldn't access the internet despite being successfully connected to the new wireless router. I've tried connecting directly via an ethernet cable but still no internet. I have surmised that it must be a setting on the laptop, though one that has kicked in over the last couple of weeks because it had been working fine on BT broadband. Any ideas how I can fix this? muppet rebecca Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Have you installed the software on the computer yet forgotten to install it on your wifes laptop? Also when you try to connect your wifes laptop to the router does it come up with an error message of some sort? Another thing has your wifes laptop worked with an Internet connection before? Quote

Hi, I am also using Virgin Media &.. They gave me a new modem. Have you registered yours? There is an activation code on the bottom of the modem or on the side of the box. I had to phone them & quote this number so they can activate the modem. Quote Gateway Laptop MT3107b. Windows 7 Home Basic (XP upgrade),2GB Ram,80GB HDD, ATI Radeon 200m Express graphics. Jelly Bean Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 The software install for the modem is only required once.It is not required to be installed on all computers. Also the disk is used only to setup the modem, after this initial setup you can connect the modem to any other computer and no need to install the software again. This could be a work group issue. Or the old BT software has not been uninstalled. An update of drivers via device manager on the laptop may help. Have you run the wireless setup wizard on both machines? Make and model of laptop and what OS it is running may help with resolving your issue. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
