Guest Danny Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Hello, Once or twice a year I have the need arise to set up a remote office for a short period of time. I have a server that I use as a GC for that site but it is dedicated to that job. After the remote site is taken down, I then need to store the server for the next 6 months to a year until it is needed again. I already demote the machine from the DC role before storing it but I am wording if I should also remove it from the domain as well. I am concerned about any domain SIDs or other domain values expiring when the computer does not get turned on for such a long period of time. The server also acts as a print server during this time so i would like to not loose all the configured printers in the process if possible. Any suggestions on the best way to do this would be appreciated. Thanks! Danny
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Re: Storing a member server Hello Danny, Just leave it also as DC, change the NIC configuration and use it in your main site, so it will be always up to date. Same for the member server. For the printers, just stop the print spooler service, so nobody can print to the not connected printers. Guest Danny Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Re: Storing a member server The server is actually just a desktop used for this small office for the once or twice a year we need it. I don't really just want to leave it in a corner running since I don't really have room for it in the main office server room and I already have plenty of DC's. The remote office is a very small setup. Anyway, I just wanted to know if a member server will experience problems if it does not communicate with the domain after a long length of time like 6mos to a year. Thanks!
