re-install ubuntu

hello i think i have to re-install ubuntu on my kids notebook as its no longer loding up prob is i am not sure how to re install it i am trying to download the os onto memory key now any help cheers

i dont know if that is what i am looking for its to get my kids webbook back up and running not to install on my laptop may be this is just to much for me to do the ubuntu is installed on tne notebook it is just not booting up

hello i have downloaded the iso image but i have just got a new usb key and it says there is no space on the key but there is nothing on the key as it is new

Hopefully your USB will be ok now.

 

The Elonex website says that you need to ring tech support to reinstall the operating system.

 

Most companies don't do that, so that leaves you with two options, one install the standard Ubuntu, or two ring them and find out if there is any difference with their version.

 

Another point is that your web book may have come with an earlier version of Ubuntu - some say 8.04, some have 9.04. I can't advise you what version you should use - Elonex will be able to.

 

9.10 should run, it may be a little slow.

hello i think i am getting some were i loaded the ubuntu 8.04 on the key that was the os that was on the netbook but when trying to install it says could not find kernel image: linux and then boot: any help

I don't know what the problem is - I have done excactly what I described to you and I'm writing this from Ubuntu running on USB stick.

 

Can you go through how you have got this far please.

 

You should have:

 

1) downloaded your ISO image of Ubuntu ( I think you sorted that ok)

2) downloaded the program I linked to.

3) made sure your USB disk was formatted/clean and ready use

4) run the linux to USB installer, selected the Ubuntu file you downloaded.

5) selected the USN stick to install it to and let it get on - may take 20 mins or so.

6) booted your web book from USB stick to run Ubuntu.

7) then double clicked the installer on the Desktop to install it your hard drive.

 

Let us know if thats how you did it please.

thanks tootech i have completed all the steps and when i saved to the hd it loaded up with all the information and then the screen went all distorted and it did not load the ubuntu any ideas
