Need Help Re-Installing MS Works 4.5

Recommended Posts

My Packard Bell Win98 came with MS Works 4.5 pre-installed,and for

reasons unknown, some of the functions are no longer working. when I

attempt to reinstall it with the setup.exe file, located in the MS

Works folder, it ask me to insert the MS Works cdrom. The only disk

that I have that came with this pc is a Packard Bell Companion CD disk

and the Master Recovery Disk. The Companion CD contains the initial

Win98 installation files. I upgraded to Win98 SE (have that CD disk

also)sometime ago. Which one of these disk would I go about locating

the necessary re-installation file(s) and how would I go about it? I

don't want to reinstall the entire system, just the MS Works

application. Any help is greatly appreciated

You mean you have the disks and not the manuals that were provided with your

specific make/model PC? That's backwards of the norm. However if you have any of

the original documents and/or manuals for your specific make/model PC, look through

them for information on how to use the disks provided with it.

If the manuals are gone for your specific make/model PC, start here

http://support.packardbell.com/global/ to see if you can obtain the information

needed for your specific make/model PC.

I don't know which disks it is on, but here is what I would do:

Look *carefully* and thoroughly on EACH disk in Windows Explorer, and see if

you can't find the Works setup files there.

If you can, then you can go back and uninstall Works, reboot, and then

*freshly* reinstall it from the CD.

However, if you are still able to use it as it is and don't want to take any

chances, I can understand your hesitation in uninstalling it, but quite

often the only way to fix these errors like you mentioned is by first

uninstalling it and then reinstalling it - just overinstalling it often

doesn't cut it.

My Packard Bell Win95 came with MS Works 4.0 pre-installed, and

it can be reinstalled or reset if damaged by launching 'Packard

Bell Restore' [PBRestor.exe] off the Master Recovery CD.

Can also be started from '[start] : Programs\Tools\PB Restore'

See if Packard Bell didn't still use that system with your machine.

You when you start getting old (65) you begin to loose a "little" :-)

After I posted this, I remembered that Packard Bell had an item on the

Start Menu. A search of this listing, found an item called "Software

Tracker". After inserting the "Companion Disk", I was able to

reinstall MS Works. Everything is back to normal. Thanks for the

reply.
