Joncon Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Does anyone know if I can run Excel for Windows 95 (I think it is version 7) under Windows 7? I have been using it with XP, but I am now having to buy a new PC with Windows 7, and I just hope I haven't lost all the info in my old Excel files! Quote
Tootech Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Hi, To be honest I haven't got a clue. Maybe its worth downloading and installing a trial of Office 2007 to your old PC and opening a backup copy of your files with it. That way you can check compatibility should the worst happen and your Excel not work on Win 7. Quote
RandyL Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 That would be a big fat no. Excel is a Microsoft Office program. That version is way to old to install on Windows 7. Even Office 2000 is not supported on the slightly older Vista. I know not only because of research but also because I could find no work arounds that would work when I actually tried it. Your files would not be lost. You just need a program that is compatable that can open them. Of course a newer version of Excel or Microsoft Office should do it as it would be backwards compatable although you may need to install a converter from them. Also the free Open Office should be able to make your files readily available to you. That's what I now use and it opened my old Office 2000 files just great. All you have to do is set the open with option to use Open Office. Very simple. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
