DAIPWYSO Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Hi All I hope you can help again. My partner's laptop (emachines 3GB memory, 250GB hdd, Vista home basic) disconnects fom the BT wirelss hub when it goes to sleep and she sometimes has to try to reconnect several times. It always connects - eventually. Whereas if I log off or switch off my pc it finds the hub itself upon restart. This is becoming quite an iritation to her so any simple fix would be appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation Dave Quote
KenB Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Hi, Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center Click on "Manage Network Connections" on the left side of screen. Click on "Wireless Network Connection" Click on "Wireless Properties" Make sure there is a check mark against "Connect Automatically when this Networ is in range". Your network should be the one listed. On the Wireless Network Connection click on "Properties" For TCP/IP v4 highlight and click on "Properties" Make sure "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" is checked. Make sure "Obtain a DNS Server Address Automatically" is checked. Do the same for TCP/IP v6 ( although I don't think this comes into play ). NB. If there are manual settings make a note of them - just in case. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! DAIPWYSO Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Hi Ken Thanks. I'll try it as soon as I get home from work today. Many thanks Dave Quote
DAIPWYSO Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Hi Ken Tried that last night, but the settings were already as per your instructions. Which is good I suppose. I tried updating the drivers: Wireless was ok, Ethernet accepted an update ( I think I know this was pointless but didn't think it would hurt) Stiil no joy. I'd found somewhere that the network adaptor driver settings could be changed. So I rooted around and unchecked 'allow computer to turn off this device' somewhere in 'control panel' 'hardware' 'network'!! Anyway Kate's laptop now connects to the hub automatically upon waking. When I get home today I have a burst pipe to deal with and then I'll post the exact location and change I made together with Kate's power usage and perhaps you'd be so good as to advise the viability of what i've done? Bye for now and thanks Dave Quote
RandyL Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 There might be something in the BIOS that can be changed. Just a guess. Quote We are all members helping other members. DAIPWYSO Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Hi All Thanks for the advice. Ken, yes it's cured (I obviously didn't make myself clear, sorry) But when I get time I'd like to post exactly how I did it so that you can verify that what I did is ok - if you'd be so kind. So yes problem solved thank you very much, but I will post again on this thread if that's ok? Regards Dave Quote
KenB Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Hi Dave, Either I or somebody else here will take a look at what you have done if you post the explanation. If your system is working with no problems you can't have got too much wrong :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
