Automatic Backups not working

Recommended Posts

Since installing Norton 2007 I have been unable to automate my backups.

I removed Norton 2007 but still have the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You left out almost everything needed to give you some help.

Automate *what* backups using *what* backup utility and *what*are you

using to automate them?

Re: Automatic Backups not working

I am using Windows XP Service Pack2. The backup is the backup utility that

Microsoft supplies. The backup utility has a feature to select automatic

backups and to schedule these backups. I am backing up to a file on a second

disk. Manual backups work OK. Just that when I schedule automatic backups

the backups do not run. They used to run prior to installing Norton 2007. I

am not sure if I installed SP2 at this time or earlier so if SP2 was

installed at the time Norton 2007 was installed, then the source of the

problem could be SP2.

I hope this is enough information to help solve my problem.

Thank you.

Xp backup system is extremely limited. It does not backup every file

or configuration.

MUCH BETTER.

I don't use NTBACKUP, so you'll have to wait for someone familiar with

that program to jump in. I asked you for the increased detail to

speed things up for you.

You may only THINK you removed Norton!

Norton is the barnacle of the software world. You'll have to use Symantec's

sooper-sekret removal tool (available at their website), THEN browse the

registry for any appearance of "Norton" or "Symantec."

THEN browse your drive for folders containing any Symantec left-overs.

Lest the above lulls you into a sense of security, you probably STILL won't

have everything scraped out.

Re: Automatic Backups not working

Twayne,

You really are a rude, ignorant pig. Why do you bother to send a dismissive,

put down reply like that to someone you don't even know? Someone who is

after all only looking for assistance or guidance and may not have the vast,

complete and all encompassing wisdom that you profess to have. You sent the

same rude and stupid reply to me a while ago along with some idiotic advice

with a problem I had. I'll post the details if you want me to.

What good does it do the enquirer or you? None. It just gives the impression

that these groups are for experts only and the ordinary person that's trying

to learn and help himself is worthless.

Also, why do you have that ridiculous footnote about Open Office? Do you

think you are the only one who knows about it? It's been on offer for years

and anyone that wants it probably has it.

Kind Regards,

Alan.

Of couse, but there are more sensitive ways to deliver that kind of advice.

Just sending that link without a word of reply is to my mind conveying to

that person that in the senders eyes he is an idiot, which I doubt is the

case.

Manners cost nothing and rude replies like that should be avoided in my

opinion. We are supposed to be helping people here, not scoring points.

Excuse me, but I think you have me confused with someone who gives a

shit what you think.

Sensitive enough for ya?
