I have

3.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium D Processor

Can this be upgraded and if so can I do it my self not affraid to open computer.

This would depend on your Motherboard, It is quite possible that you may be able to upgrade to a dual core, or even Maybe a Quad, but then again you might be stuck.

 

But the deciding factor is your motherboard, The CPU socket type and the Chipset.

 

so if you Post your Motherboard specs and or Make and Model then we would be able to look into it for you

To be honest I think you would have to replace the motherboard as well, to gain any significant upgrade. So if you have the budget to buy new then it may well be a better option.

Hi bob,

 

Your board isn't a standard MSI board, it looks like it is based on an MSI i945P Neo board, which do have support for all the new CPU's.

 

BUT.......it is an OEM board, built for Medion - it is different and it looks like it may have a different BIOS. General consensus is that an upgrade won't work.

 

Next bit of bad news, it is a uBTX format board - thats a format that came along, was used for a while by Dell, Medion etc and seems to have gone away again.

 

A standard uATX motherboard will not fit. You would need a new case. I'd leave it all alone.
