PC Boots up by itself

I know this may sound like I have a Wake up On Lan problem but I have always

had the wake up feature of the NIC switched off and I don't have any

automatic switch on enabled in the BIOS.

But for the last 2 weeks whenever I switch the PC running WIN XP Pro SP2

into Hibernate - it switches itself back on - seems to mainly happen at 7

am. I usualy wait around for about 5 minutes after it goes into hibernate

to check that all the lights have gone off.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

You should also check to see if the power off mode / switch is not set

to "hibernate."

Sorry, but what do you mean by "power off mode/ switch" are you referring to

something in BIOS - as I have had nothing changed in it for a few years. -

this is a DELL GX260.

As it happens today it only switched on once at 7am. I have had a boot

message saying the battery power is low (this is a desktop) - perhaps the

little battery needs replacing?

Your question is not related to Windows - you'll find the best experts

in a hardware group.

When the computer is in standby or hibernation, the setting that

matters is Device Manager, Network adapters, ... NIC, Power

Management.

Is there anything in Scheduled Tasks?

I would agree with this. Especially if it happened only on hibernate

and not on full shutdown.

Try hibernating by running the command line:

rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

I think the default options prevent the running of "Wake" events.

It is if Windows is bringing the machine out of hibernate, which

scheduled tasks could do.

Re: PC Boots up by itself

I did go to the Hardware group and as it happened it was in fact the TASK

SCHEDULER - I had accidentally set it to wake the computer for a backup ask.

I NEVER knew this could be done.
