mij Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) I have attemted to update my drivers and am in contact with the necessary bods to try and resolve the problems I am encountering. The utility is not recognizing any updated drivers. What do the peeps here use? This must be a first step if something doesn't work as expected? cheers jim Edited January 14, 2010 by mij Quote
RandyL Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I don't use driver update utilities. What I do IF I need a driver update is get it from the manufacturer. For instance if you have a HP computer you can see if newer drivers are available at the HP site. Or if say you need newer drivers for a Nvidia graphics card you can go to the Nvidia site for them. Personally I don't trust such utilities to be accurate. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. I found when I changed from win 98 to XPpro that most drivers were useless and I did use a site that gave me all that was necessary, all in one place. What's more they also told me which ones needed updating so I paid for the convenience I suppose. I was also able to use the utilities they provided for all other computers that I happen to be asked to sort. Now I have left XP and gone to vista and thought the same convenience would suit again. It seems I was wrong .... it's not doing it at all. Maybe I'll have to go to the original manufacturer's sites after all. What a pain..... cheers jim Edited January 15, 2010 by mij Quote
Match Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 It seems I was wrong .... it's not doing it at all. This is quite often the case, or even worse they give you the wrong drivers, I Don't know any good techs or computer experts that will use the many available utilities that claim to update your drivers and or installed software. But Generally the main Drivers that will get updates are display drivers and sound card drivers the rest only seem to get an update if their is a specific problem. Quote

I'll have to do a belarc advisor list and then do a round of the manufacturers to find the updates - I assume that's what peeps would otherwise do. cheers jim Quote
Match Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Also once you have found the right sites with the right drivers just Bookmark them for future reference ;) Quote

dazzac1965 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I down graded from Vista to XP, and I needed all new drivers. Going round the different manufactures is good, BUT, the web sites don't always have the correct drivers that you need. I used Driver Genius to update my drivers - It worked OK for most. I also found some on microsoft update website. I've now backed them up incase of this problem. You could also try the computer manufacturer web site. It may not be the same model as yours, but often the hardware is the same. Quote Gateway Laptop MT3107b. Windows 7 Home Basic (XP upgrade),2GB Ram,80GB HDD, ATI Radeon 200m Express graphics.
