Guest news.microsoft.com Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Hi there, I met a very weird problem today. Our Windows Server 2k3 R2 (this is a DC) doesn't work, when we tried to reboot it, some weird information shows up as follows, Now provisioning: D01 VNFS: sl-5.0.i386 Group: Cluster Node ID: 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx mount: RPC: Unable to send; errorno = Network is unreachable ERROR: Could not mount NFS file system! I'm wondering whether anyone knows the weird information, does it mean our networking card is broken or else? Why does the server need to mount NFS when booting? I appreicate any comments. Ray
Guest S. Pidgorny Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Re: Emergent help please Because the server is configured to access NFS. There's not enough information to help you. Is this a dialog box or event log entry? Do you have access to commend line? What happens if you start in safe mode (http://www.petri.co.il/safe_mode_in_windows_2000_xp_2003.htm)? Do you have recent system state backup or another DC? This may be a network card issue. Try booting into alternative OS (any Linux live CD will do) to check your network connectivity. -- Svyatoslav Pidgorny, MS MVP - Security, MCSE -= F1 is the key =- * http://sl.mvps.org * http://msmvps.com/blogs/sp * "news.microsoft.com" <min@usa.com> wrote in message news:OAAOdZxeIHA.1900@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Hi there, > > I met a very weird problem today. Guest Roger Abell [MVP] Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Re: Emergent help please Since sl-5.0.i386 sounds suspiciously like a Linux distro tag and VNFS is common abbrev for virtual node file system (on Linux); and as these are not Microsoft and you would have needed to decide to install/enable NFS in W2k3 R2 and I would assume know about it; I have to ask whether you feel the machine got hacked? Guest news.microsoft.com Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Re: Emergent help please Thanks, Svyatoslav and Roger. You guys confirmed my idea. In fact, I was far away from the server, and I also wondered that's Linux information and harcked. Now I knew the information was from the networking card instead of R2, it's from the embeded system in the networking card. Thanks again.
