OT: Seagate HDparm ? ...

Recommended Posts

Anyone know where to find, on the Seagate web site, the utility dos program

for Seagate hd's (if one exists) / equivalent or similar to Hitachi's

HDparm, for setting accoustic characteristics etc. I've been searching for

ages and all I can find is the diagnostics / self test download. Though

it's beginning to look a little like accoustics are designed and/or handled

differently in some Seagates models.

TIA

I believe you are looking for SeaGate SeaTools.

Re: OT: Seagate HDparm ? ...

Much obliged, ...I did spot SeaTools but, it looked like it was a simply a

consumer "drive health" tool.

However I have downloaded it, stuffed in MS dotnetfx 2.0, and SeaTools,

which complains about an unhandled exception error !

It runs, after a fashion, and I notice there is a "Drive Settings" under the

"advanced" tab but, SeaTools.exe is not working properly.

Perhaps I should boot into Safe Mode and try it, ....perhaps I should look

for the dos based version, perhaps I should just wait for hd rubber rails to

arrive in the post, and continue scouring the web for a cheap Scythe

QuietDrive or Nexus Drive-a-way, ...I will NOT pay over £30 ! ....can get a

brand new HD for that !

....will fight with it later !

Huh ?

Download the .ISO, burn and then boot from a CDROM.

Re: OT: Seagate HDparm ? ...

Thanks again, ...sillly me - in too much of a rush, I downloaded and

installed the Windows version.

....just downloaded the SeaTools dos *.iso, from the Seagate link you kindly

posted me, and burnt one | booted up with it, and the only "accoustic" menu

option is to spin up, and spin down the drive - so that one can listen to

the difference !!!

I was hoping for something in the drives firmware similar to :-

http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#FeatureTool

....after digging around in here, I found a screen shot of a "dos graphical

menu" with slider bars, and a slider bar to reduce "seek" noise, with a

performance penalty of course, ...and wondered if there was something

similar in Seagate hd's, which there doesn't seem to be, but,

....it's not important, btw, :-)

Thanks again,

regards, Richard
