Q. Do you have a Tv Sound System Connected to your Computer but you appear to be missing a driver for the Audio, How would you know what Driver to download?

 

And to make things intresting,.....the Sound Card is Unknown.

Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit

 

Opening up the computer and checking code on the card and doing an online search of it is PCI card.

 

Check computer manual if the card was origonaly installed when the computer was purchased.Is it PCI or onborad is a factor.

 

There are many ways to find the make and model and the correct driver.

 

Including driver scanning software.

 

The make and model of mainboard is another way and check the makers website on what sound card is installed.

That ASTRA32 Program was great I think,.....I've tryed many of these programs to scan your drivers to see what your missing and they were all crap lol

 

Under sound is has these:

 

Sound Chip Vendor Nvidia Corp

Sound Chip Nforce 430 (mpc61) High Definition Audio

AC'97/HDA Codec Name Realtek ALC662-GR

 

I've already installed nforce 430(mpc61) as it said it was needed for my network connection which works fine,....Would I need to install the Realtek Driver?

Astra32 is good and can be used as a free scanner,no need to pay.I realy do not like these scanner programs you have to pay for.

 

There are many many free ones that do the job just fine.

 

Belarc is a simple free one that may not give you full hardware specs but for a quick and easy guide it is brilliant.

 

You can install the Reatek codecs.

Just while were on this topic, I wanted to know something specific about My motherboard and if the chipset support ATAPI, in my search I came across this little application

 

CPUID

 

Haven't finished playing with it yet, and still looking but thought I'd mention it as its looking like it may well end up in my tool kit

well I was concerned about it having spyware, or having to install toolbars but all looks good clean fun with accurate information, so that's an addition that will replace a couple of things however this now means sitting down and writing out a few instruction sets before it can be used on forums :)

Yep I've used cpuid only to then realise how old the computer is and the fact that they don't make parts like it anymore. It does the job anyways it's good to know there are scanners out there to pinpoint your unknown driver. Going to have to keep that link handy in bookmarked pages for future referrence. Can never have too many referrences come to think of it.
