Hello,

My Windows XP Pro machine has rebooted twice in the last few hours for

no reason that I can see.

How can I investigate this?

Cheers

1. Turn off the automatic restart so you can get a Stop Error (blue screen).

Once you have the Stop Error, you can research it here:

http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

To change the automatic restart, Control Panel>System>Advanced>Startup and

Recovery>Settings and under System Failure uncheck "Automatically Restart".

2. Look in Event Viewer for clues:

Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

3. Try and answer The First Question of Troubleshooting: what changed

between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

4. Make sure your hardware is good and your machine is not overheating.

That should give you some starting points.

Thanks Malke - I have turned the auto restart off and I'm waiting for

a blue screen(!!), can think of nothing that I did to change anything

and can find nothing in the event viewer that rings any bells. Will

see of I can look into the hardware side..

Cheers

Re: XP Pro machine reboots??!!

a lot of the sudden reboots are caused by over heating.

if you do not have a program to monitor fans and temperatures, you should have.

speed fan is a good one.

Google for it.

also you might invest in some canned air to blow the cob webs and dust bunnies out of it.

by turning off the auto restart option you can maybe get some error codes to google for to see what might be wrong otherwise.

I have Everest Ultimate and the temps (degrees Centigrade) are as

follows:

mother board 42

CPU 53

GPU Diode 57

HD 1 46

HD 2 45

The fan speed: 2560 RPM

My guess is that these are OK?

That I will try.

I have done that and am waiting for a reboot!

Cheers
