Tape Backup

I have setup a daily full tape backup that we rotate between two tapes. I'm

using Windows Backup Utility and when it preforms the backup I get the

following error: "Cannot locate the specified media or backup device. This

backup operation will terminate". If I mark the tape as free then the backup

runs. I need the backup to override the information on the tape automatically

because I'm not at the office every day and I may not be able to remote in.

I'm presuming you have this setup as a scheduled task. Either append /um to

the command line in there (=unmanaged, or "use any tape") .... or start

using a batch file to run the backup job entirely, which can include this

switch and many more.....there are a lot of scripts out there from which you

can crib if you do some searching on google, or post in

m.p.windows.server.scripting.

Try the /um switch for unmanaged backups.

Remember to check your backup reports weekly and to

perform a test recovery about twice every year.

I'll have to try the /um switch. It looks like it will solvle my problem.

Your reply appeared almost three hours after its time stamp.

I wonder if it got stuck somewhere or if your PC time is

out by a few hours.

No, alll clocks are fine - I just don't have my newsreader set to send

outbound messages immediately (this is deliberate) & probably didn't hit

"send" quickly enough. I've been under the weather and am not firing on all

cylinders right now :-)
