monitoring in/out traffic

Recommended Posts

Hello,

What is the best 3rd party software to monitor all traffic between

my computer and the outside world?

Specially, I would like to monitor such data as:

which application does trafficking,

what data is being transmitted out (how many kbytes)

Your comments appreciated,

Jack

Ethereal, mentioned by Rick I tried to use. It may be too complicated for a

person who does not want to spend a lot of time reading help definitions,

etc. It is more for college geeks monitoring network traffic in larger

networks, I think. It is my understanding that Ethereal is freeware.

Consirder native Microsoft graphics UI.

I've used it and found it very helpful. It is rahter humanized to the point

that you do not need much introduction. It somewhat alike to NetStatMon, a

freeware which I also used. netStatMon, BTW is quite helpful, seems to be

malware free (at least at the time I used it in XP). From about six month

ago I've decided that MS has everything I will ever need. NetMon.exe is a

testimony to it.

Re: monitoring in/out traffic

See how nice you can be when you stick to computer stuff and don't

blabber about your racist, Nazi, hatred ideology?

Hating blacks, Mayans, Muslims, anyone who does not have blue eyes and blond

hair, and poor and sick people who were unfortunate in life, seems to be

your personal hobby. Let them suffer you say!

Keep this CRAP to yourself!

Not that you are particularly good with giving advice regarding computers,

since most of the things you say are wrong

but at least you try!

No it's not freeware, it is Open Source software licensed under the GPL. It

is a packet sniffer not a traffic monitor. It is now called Wireshark.

Cheers.

Right. But neiter is/was for the non-techie, those not able to climb a

steep learning curve if sniffing etc. is new to them.

Also, depends on access; if dialup, it's simple. If DSL or up, not so

simple at all though it could be if someone just wrote the right app for

it.
