Hello and welcome Edna.

This isnt looking good at the moment.

The laptop could of xrashed due to overheating, this is an issue with lots of laptops. When left on beds and softfurnidhings etc it causes vents to become covered and the machine cannot cool down. That is not saying this is what happened in this case.

The problem could be a bad cable connection.

It could be as you say broken graphics card wich I am afraid to say means a whole new mainboard Laptops have intergrated graphics cards wich are not simple to replace as a computer.

If it is hardware issue then I am afraid I would either take it to a computer repair shop as they are difficult for normal users to try and fix and more issues could be caused.

Have you tried to restart the laptop and repeatedly tap F8 key and choose last known good config or safe mode thats if the screen will allow you to see the options?

Hi,

I suspect that you have a motherboard / video adapter problem.

(as J-B says, on a laptop they are often integrated).

If you move the screen backwards and forwards - does the pattern of lines change?

If they do it could be a connection problem with the cable that runs from the motherboard through the hinge to the screen.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
