When I open the Windows XP Newsgroups page I noticed there is no sign in

button at the top of the page. After going the long route to get signed in

and having been returned to the Newsgroup page there is a sign out button.

Hasd anyone else noticed this or is this exclusive to my computer.

Can't say, sorry - I don't use the web interface, and suggest you don't

either if you really want to get much out of these groups. Use a newsreader/

client, such as Forte Agent, Thunderbird, or even Outlook Express, rather

than the pretty clunky web interface. It's a lot easier to do nearly

everything that way. You can mark messages to be watched, filter the views

so you can see replies to your posts easily, and search.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can

subscribe to as many groups as you like; no authentication is required.

I don't use the web version of the newsgroup, so I can't really help you,

but if you view the newsgroup in a newsreader, there's no need to sign in at

all.

It is better and faster, to use a newsreader like Outlook Express, Windows

Mail (I think that has the newsreader element) or others, like Thunderbird

(Email/News client from the makers of Firefox browser).

Simply subscribe to the groups through the newsreader you use. Your ISP

should have those hosted or use the groups on msnews.microsoft.com

Hello,

Yes, same happening to my unit.

I click on the "reply" button. This directs me to the password page, enter

password then receive a "404" page and I click goback to previous page. When

returned to previous page I am registered. I make the assumption that changes

are being installed.

take care.
