Drop down menu / My computer delay

Please help...Whenever I use a drop down menu the XP window will freeze for

about 90 secs before the menu opens. Say I'm in network connections and I

use the address bar to navigate to my docs,my computer, etc. As soon as I

hit the drop down arrow the window will freeze. This takes place also when

trying to open a file using the run feature on the start menu and having to

navigate there using the drop down menu ..Also if I open " My Computer" from

my desktop or start menu the window will open immediately but will search for

a couple of minutes before finding the files. One last thing that happens is

when I boot up the computer it now goes directly to start up menu stating

windows did not close properly and gives me the option of a safe mode, safe

mode w/ networking, etc,,, I feel all this began after I downloading a trail

version of Cybersitter. Every time I've tried to uninstall it I get a

message that it failed..
