Hia ppl im stuck realy stuck

ive now got a brand new hard drive due to i thort it was my "Ubuntu" messing up the settings in bios but the same problem remains

ok so basicly im trying to get windows XP Sp2 back on my pc its been there b4 so it dose work, what ive done is....

1) put the xp boot disk in the dive and booted off it go to the install drivers and put in my floppy disk and installed them then hit enter and it says "Cant find Hard Drives" blar blar blar

2) reset the bios by taking out the battery and setting it back to "Factory Setings"

nothing is working i still get the same message

(with the old hard drive i tryed wiping ubuntu off it but it refused to move then tryed to put it in anouther mashine and wipe it but windows wouldnt see it so i "Fixmbr" and tryed a few dos based wipe programs and that didnt work hence i thort the drive was a bit Fu**ed so i got a new one to get me though)

i cant find any sata setup in the bios but there is scsi settings the the boot menu .

the board did work with the 80gb sata drive with windows on it.

SUMMERY;

did work fine

put ubuntu on it and worked fine

now trying to put windows back on it and says cant find hard drives

have the floppy sata drivers and raid drivers they go on fine (or seem to)

when i hit enter to install windows it says "Setup cannot find any hard drives installed on this system"

my system is

MSI K7n2 delta ilsr

X700 AGP ATI

1.7 gb Ram

sata hard drive 160gb (the biggest dirve the board could take) (hence the drivers on the floppy)

Please please please help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee xxxxx

Hi.

Does the bios pick up the hard drives. I asume the jumper settings(if any) is correct coz you say it did work. Did you try another copy of the windows cd? It sounds strange that it does not want to format the hard disk. Does it do the same with the new hard drive?

Ill check back later

good luck

what make of motherboard do you have...i will then be able to find where the sata controller is for you...

also have you made sure you are using the correct sata drivers on that cd.

also try anothe sata cable and port on your motherboard...

have you ran any diagnostics on the hard drive as yet.

sata can be qiute funny with windows if the driver isnt 100%,can you get the drivers again and put them on a fresh floppy and give it a retry.

also like maynardvdm said is the bios even finding the hard drive.but resetting the bios you may have turned of the sata controller...boot back into your bios,go to standard bios features, then look in there for your hard drive....

the sata controller is usually in intergrated periphials (soory for the spelling lol), or advanced features.if i remeber correctly.

hia thanks for replying guys

the mobo is a "MSI K7n2 Delta ILSR"

I cant see the hard drives in bios under IDE

yet i cant see any sata options in the bios settings in any tab

is the same with the new hard drive as it was with the old one i thort was causing the problem

i got the floppy disk "sata drivers" from the msi web site

(here)

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=546&maincat_no=1

the jumper settings control the amount of bites the data travles so ive set it to the slow setting as the mobo dosnt support the fast option

but as i said the blody thing worked b4

when i put the floppy in and hit f6 when it says in windows setup it finds the right drivers fine

also and heres the funni bit ubuntu still loads fine with the old hard drive this is why i got the new one i thort it was linux "Grub" loader playing around but ive got new hard drive with no mbr so windows should install that of the disk

or am i missing somthing

thanks again for replying and sorry for spellin im cr*p at tit xxx
