Wireless Mouse - not responding.

Once again apologies if posting in incorrect section, but I often am unsure of where to post.

 

Ok today we setup the other half's new PC. It has both wireless keyboard & mouse. The mouse was working immediately, and after a false start the keyboard followed suit (I changed the batteries and notice the set button underneath). Ok bear in mind it came without documentation and neither of us have any experience of wireless mice/keyboards.

 

Tonight she tells me she has lost the use of the cordless mouse and it is not responding. She has unplugged and tried removing the batteries etc. but to no avail. Also advises there is not a set button on it like the keyboard had.

 

Also when trying to fit a "normal" mouse, it is not recognised and nothing happens. Because of this, she cannot get on here - hence my post. We live at separate locations by the way.

 

Anything obvious we may be missing or need to do here? as I said the mouse was working fine earlier when setup. Why wasn't the non-wireless mouse working as I always found them to be plug-and-play?

Let's see... I think the first thing we'd like is some more information about what hardware and software you've got!

 

- What PC (make and model) does your other half have (spec' and Operating System please!)??

- What make/model are the wireless keyboard and mouse in question?

Hi Quacker,

 

This is probably a little late for you and your friend, but might help other people with the same problem.

 

I had just the same problem with my wireless mouse. I also tried a plug and play...No joy!!

 

This is what I done....

 

1. Boot into Safe Mode (Arrow keys are used to make the selection)

 

2. At the logon screen click the down arrow on your keyboard until the account you want to logon is highlighted.

 

3. Type your password if you have one and hit "Enter" (return key)

 

4. You will now see a black screen with a window in the centre telling that windows is running in safe mode. By default the word "Yes" will be highlighted at the bottom of the window. Leave that selected and hit "Enter".

 

5. Ok...now you have a window you can work in. You can open up "System Restore". Hit the windows flag key (Start key)... and R. "Flag key + R". This will open the "Run" dialogue. Type "CMD" without the quotes. Hit "Enter".

 

6. In the command prompt type "%systemroot%\system32\restore\ rstrui.exe" with no gaps and without the quotes. Hit "Enter".

 

7. The System Restore window will now open. Hit "Enter".

7a. Hit "Enter" again

7b. Now hit "Enter" yet again to confirm the restore point selection.

 

8. System Restore will now do it's thing. Be patient and sit back and watch it.

 

Your computer will reboot during the restore process. When it's done and you have logged on again hopefully both your wireless mouse will be working along with any plug and play mice you may have connected.

 

This worked for me today. The whole point is that you will not have had to touch your mouse throughout the whole proceedings.

 

Having done some reading on this subject it seems that system restore will often work when run from the command line when it has failed when started normally. Maybe someone who has more experience here than me could throw some light on why that should be.

Possibly the simplist thing to do is as I did a few days ago with my computer upstairs and the babys.

 

Both have wireless keyboard and mouse,Logitech.

 

They are a pain in the rear.

 

It is connect mouse then keyboard.

 

Its press the button on the reciever then on mouse then do the same for the keyboard.

 

It took a few attempts to get them to connect.

 

They connected in the end but soooooo annoyed me.

RandyL yes Logitech can be a pain.I spent a year thinking my expencive Logitech keyboard was broken.

It was just try try and try again to get it to connect.
