Hello,

I get this message while trying to access the "Computer Name" tab in "System

Properties": The following error occurred while attempting to read domain

membership information. Access is denied.

I am logged in under local administrator for the computer which is Windows

XP PRO SP2. The domain level function running in Windows Server 2003.

When I click on the error I can get to the "Computer Name" tab but where the

domain is it states: *Unknown*

I have tried removing the computer from the domain but I get the "Access is

Denied" error. I have even been able to logon as the Domain Administrator

which should be in the administrators group, I had put it in previously.

This seems to be happening on a couple of other workstations, same

configuration hardware and software. I believe the problem is on the 2003 AD

Server but can't find anything. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Re: Computer Name Changes

Hello blink,

Just to understand you right. Logging in as local admin or domain admin will

give you an Access denied error when doing administrative tasks?

Did you check the Restricted groups configuration in your GPO's? There you

can rconfigure in the complete domain the local administrators, for example.

Best regards

Re: Computer Name Changes

Hello Meinolf,

I have checked all the GPO in the AD everything is disabled and the local

GPO is also disabled. I have been able to boot into safe mode rename and

access the Computer Name Changes Tab from the same account I was logining in

with. Was able to successfully change the name and change it to a workgroup.

Reboot normally after changing it and same problem returns. Even deleted all

the .POL files from the GroupPolicy folder. Ran multiple virus scan agents

with no results. Installed new computers to the AD and the have not seen the

error. Problem is occuring on same LAN different subnet, haven't wiped yet,

bugs me out!

Thanks
