Guest David Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Win2003SBS SP2 This has just to appear after the possibly coincidental uninstallation of Panda Business Secure Exchange. Start -> Run -> anything.msc and MMC cannot open the file ... This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient rights to the file. From the command prompt mmc.exe browse to a .msc same error.. Any assistance gratefully received. -- David @ Solsletta

Seems like the associations broke. Did you already have the MMC roll-up installed prior to uninstallation? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940848 - Thee Chicago Wolf
Guest David Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Re: MMC cannot open the file C:\....\file_name.msc Thanks for the prompt response. The files installed on this server are an earlier version. Worth calling for the hotfix? -- David @ Solsletta "Thee Chicago Wolf" wrote: > >Win2003SBS SP2 > > > >This has just to appear after the possibly coincidental uninstallation of > >Panda Business Secure Exchange. > > > >Start -> Run -> anything.msc and MMC cannot open the file ... > > > >This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was > >created by a later version of MMC. The files installed on this server are an >earlier version. Worth calling for the hotfix? If you have SP2 you've already got MMC 3.0, it would be worth installing the roll-up, not hotfix, from the KB as it might fix this goofy broken association issue that you seem to have. Worst case scenario, go and grab MMC 3.0 in downloadable format and try a re-install. It may already complain that it's installed but perhaps it might do a repair. - Thee Chicago Wolf

The OP has SP2 installed which integrates MMC 3.0. - Thee Chicago Wolf
