Risys running Win31 - 98SE disk recovery

Discussion was originally entitled Computer failure - 02/19/2008, poster

BAP, in this discussion forum. The discussion spread to two other computers

and issues with those, their operating systems and other. I have split that

discussion into new separate discussions with headings for the individual

potentials/issues. Please keep these discussions separated.

Background, the Microtime computer had been running Windows 98SE until the

computer started to fail. Presently diagnostic routines are being run

through to attempt a recovery. This discussion concerns data recovery from

the Microtime's hard disk and potential issues with an older computer, BIOS,

and Windows 3.1/DOS limitations..

The Microtime hard drive was previously determined to have a boot manager

installed upon it. A work-around was apparently used to bypass that manager

[see Microtime discussion for reference]

3. What is the size of the C drive that is found [is it the actual drive]?

BAP:

If you are referring to the Microtime, that is the one I just commented on.

The Risys was about 4GB. (I need to check on that).

Okay. As indicated, this will likely be the one to use for the Microtime's

OS disk data recovery.

I had noted your comments that the Rysis might have had a better chance at

dealing with with

the overlay present in the Microtime's Pri. Master HD. The problem, I

thought, would have been

of what to do with the Data in that HD if it were possible to get to it. I

would have had to install

a writeable CD-ROM ad appropriate software or see if I could resurrect the

original Tape Backup

that used Travan Tapes and DITTO Tools.

Anyway, see my post/reply forthcoming today on the progress with the Sony's

Computer.

Thank you, "MEB"!
