Guest razor Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Hello-- We are running a Windows 203 Server and Windows XP environment. We have a DHCP server within our subnet. Several of our staff have laptops that they take out into the field for unspecified periods of time, and then return to the office and plug them into the network again. In some instances, their IP lease expires on the laptop while they are out out in the field, another client within the LAN is assigned that same IP address and then the remote staff returns to the office, plugs their laptop in and now I show two devices on my network with the same IP address. Is there a solution for this? Many thanks, -- Stephen
Guest Anthony [MVP] Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Re: Need Advice for DHCP for Remote Laptops Stephen, There's a couple of things. You can set scavenging in your DNS to clean out old registrations. You can also set the DHCP server to do the registrations: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/d0e19b57-c368-46c2-b017-caf25ae150ec1033.mspx?mfr=true Hope that helps, Anthony http://www.airdesk.com "razor" <stephend@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6F5A3D99-2905-4AED-8C36-9D892DCDBDD6@microsoft.com... > Hello-- > > We are running a Windows 203 Server and Windows XP environment. Guest Chris White Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 RE: Need Advice for DHCP for Remote Laptops Nothing worse than a Dirty DNS infrastructure. In fact a lot of problems can occur from DNS being untidy or being a horder of old records. This is an easy solution though, so you should be sorted in no time. I utilize DHCP reservations in my Network to ensure I can track a User on the system. Their IP is permanent so I can maintain documentation for that user, and also track problems quickly by glancing at current Reservations to see who is who. I have dozens of Engineers who come in and out of the office after periods out in the field at varied intervals so this way I maintain control. -- Chris White United Kingdom "razor" wrote: > Hello-- > > We are running a Windows 203 Server and Windows XP environment.
