Guest Richard Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 We recently had a problem resulting in loss of data and I would like to get a deeper understanding of the possible causes so I can prevent this in the future. Here are the details: Windows 2003 server standard attached to a StoreVault S500 disk storage device via a GB iSCSI SAN interface. Disk mounted to a LUN on the Storevault device. Volume formatted as NTFS. The interface was up and running for several months then we got several Event IDs 26 and 55 logged as follows: Event Type: Information Event Source: Application Popup Event Category: None Event ID: 26 Date: 2/12/2008 Time: 6:43:47 AM User: N/A Computer: <NAME> Description: Application popup: WindowsServer2003-KB931300-x86-ENU.exe - Corrupt File : The file or directory E:\$Secure is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility. Event Type: Error Event Source: Ntfs Event Category: Disk Event ID: 55 Date: 2/12/2008 Time: 6:43:47 AM User: N/A Computer: <NAME> Description: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume Application. After restarting the Storevault device the drive (E:) was visible from the server but accessing the device gave a “corrupt disk” error. My question is: what is the file $Secure and what may have corrupted the file. Understanding this may help me prevent this from occurring again. Thanks in advance for any help. -- Richard
