fergiemac Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 After following microsofts instructions, i uninstalled svc pack 3 because it was causing problems. now i can't boot up !! Comp goes to the boot screen, gives me all the options and no matter which 1 i try it just goes back to boot screen. tried to boot from cd but it keeps asking for an admin password which i know i didn't put in. Any help gratefully received thanks fergie Quote
Match Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 tried to boot from cd but it keeps asking for an admin password which i know i didn't put in. what do you do when you get this prompt? have you tried putting in a password? have you tried leaving it blank and just pressing return? and what happens when you do anything? fergiemac Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 tried hitting return, says it's wrong password, tried different passwords...same thing..if i do nothing...it does nothing ! Quote
Match Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 is this an XP installation CD, or an XP recovery CD? Quote
fergiemac Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 XP installation CD...i dont have a repair one Quote
Match Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I have a bit of a morale dilemma here !! if you had Administrator rights on your pc, then you would know the password, if no password were set then by just hitting enter should get you past it. as described here under "How to use the Recovery Console" How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP So I'll PM the Admin here and see what they say. Match Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I'm afraid that you have to reinstall Windows. Quote
fergiemac Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 yeah thanks match....i'd kinda come to that conclusion......i still don't know why it is asking for a password when i am the only one who uses this comp....and the only one who ever has. and never put a password in ! Quote
Match Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 problem is that passwords and forums are a touchy subject, same as hacked or cracked software, it opens a whole tin of liability and legal worms that most site owners would rather not have to deal with and so prohibit any help with these issues. sorry but I am limited to what advice I can give other than to take the machine to a reputable dealer who can then verify that you are the owner and do have the right to access the files. Match Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Right you have two options 1. Fix things, How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP 2. Replace things, Perform a Repair Installation Personally I think that its a corrupt registry problem and would go for option 2. Quote
