This is probably a stupid question, but how does one log on

to the computer as administrater for purposes of doing a

repair or upgrade when changing motherboard, processor and

memory? I have downloaded the procedure but have never tried

to do this. Any advice will be appreciated as I attempt this

complicated process(upgrade, repair).

No Admin logon require.

You set your computer to check for a boot CD as first boot device.

Insert your WinXP CD

Bootup...

Do a repair install:

How you do this depends on whether you are running XP Home or XP

professional.

XP Home:

The Administrator account is only accessible from safe mode. Press F8 while

the machine is booting up. the correct time is just as the drives are

detected, but not all BIOSs display this. You may mave to experiment to get

the timing right. The matter is not helped by some BIOSs using F8 to enter

the setup menu. If this happens simply quit without saving changes and then

immediately hit F8 just after it exits. Once in Safe mode, the

Administrator account is offered on the welcome screen. If you have set a

password you will have to enter it. Note that on VGA connected monitors,

the Administrator account is only offered in the default VGA resolution (it

shows at normal resolution on DVI monitors).

XP Professional:

From the welcome screen, press Ctrl-Alt-Del twice. Overtype the default

account with 'Administrator'. The password needs to be entered (but if it

hasn't been set leave the password blank).

If you are having real problems, the administrator account can also be

entered in safe mode as above.
