spoolsv.exe - 50% CPU usage

XP Pro

I recently set up file and printer sharing to enable my niece to print

from her laptop using a wireless connection.

Have since noticed that spoolsv.exe is running in Task Manager and is

using 50% of CPU.

Did some searching and discovered that it could be a virus, so have run

all my (up-to-date) anti-nasty programs and it seems genuine.

I then turned off file and printer sharing and all network connections

and re-booted but it still appears in TM.

If I End Process, my printer icon disappears from the System Tray and I

have nothing listed in my Printers and Faxes folder.

Have tried using Manual setting in Services and also disabling it.

However, as soon as I start the service it runs at 50% and disabling it

gives the same result as End Process i.e. no printer icon.

Have looked at MS Knowledge Base but nothing exactly matches my problem

and some solutions require an XP disk (I only have a Dell OEM recovery

disk).

Would appreciate some feedback on this.

Found the answer.

There was a file waiting to print in Microsoft Office Document Image

Writer. I double clicked it and cleared all print jobs.

Must have attempted to use this when setting up printer sharing.

Back to normal now. Phew!
