kbgooner Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 i'm not sure if i am posting this in the right place but.... i have a samsung 37" LCD TV model: LE37R87BD® which has a stadard VGA port on the back. i have tried to cennect my PC (vista) through this and although it seems to work, there is a constant flicker on the screen. am i right to use this type of connection of should i be using something else. also, i am unable to get any sound through the tv, does anyone know what type of connection i need for that. GRANDAD Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Not sure if this helps but my son in law connects his laptop [vista] to his LG tv using the VGA connection, then selects PC from the sourse button on the TV. He connects the sound via a din cable [if thats the correct terminalogy] from the laptop to the TV. It works great. Good luck PS i could double check this on thursday if still required but i feel that other members will reply soon, regards. Quote
GRANDAD Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I also have a SAMSUNG lcd tv, and having checked the user's manual i find a couple of pages at the back relating to the settings for a TV to PC. Theres auto adjust ect, which should correct the 'flicker'--hence you should have your manual or be able to download from samsung to give you the required info. Good luck. Quote
kbgooner Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Grandad thank you for your response, i have managed to dig out the manual and have also updated the driver for my graphics card. i now have a perfect picture and need only to sort out the sound. according to the manual the best option is HDMI cables as these carry both the audio and video feeds together. unfortunately only my TV has HDMI sockets, not my PC. i have had a good look aroud and have found a cable which has s-video + 3.5mm jack at one end (PC) and standard red, yellow and white AVI sockets for the TV input. it sounds as though it should work and at only £2.49 from e-bay with free delivery has to be the cheapest option available. i will post back to let people know if this works ok Quote
GRANDAD Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Hi again, i think you should find on both your laptop and at the rear of your TV a 3.5mm jack point for audio. Its great when it all works. Best of luck. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Hi, as Grandad says, there should be a speakers output 3.5mm jack socket on your computer, and possibly the same sound input 3.5mm socket on the TV, if no 3.5mm socket on the TV there may be two RCA sockets for left and right sound, or failing that a "Scart" socket. You can get "Scart" to RCA adapters. You just need the lead to suit whichever socket types you have. Nev Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
